Welcome
Queer Haven
A network for queer refugees in Brandenburg
A project of the regional association AndersARTIG
One-on-one support for queer refugees:
Queer Haven facilitates the self-empowerment of LGBTIQ refugees in the Brandenburg region by providing one-on-one support, advice, and referrals to a broad range of trustworthy, LGBTIQ-friendly services, from health-care and therapy through to legal advice and navigating red tape. Our centre also welcomes family, friends and advocates of queer refugees. [more]
Training and education:
Queer Haven regularly hosts seminars, public discussions and workshops on issues of gender, sexuality and asylum for a broad audience. We also offer specialized workshops that inform and raise awareness of these issues among those involved in refugee work, including staff from both government and non-government organisations.
Empowerment:
Queer Haven is also a safe space for LGBTIQ refugees to connect with each other and the wider LGBTIQ community in Land Brandenburg. We encourage refugees to get involved, to start groups and host events at the centre, to bring their own concerns and views to the table, and contribute to shaping the political and social realm for LGBTIQ refugees and asylum-seekers in Germany.
Networking:
Queer Haven is part of the association AndersARTIG, which brings together many different LGBTIQ initiatives and groups in Land Brandenburg. Their well-established, broad network of groups and projects cover many different aspects of LGBTIQ life, from coming out and politics to culture and sport. This provides us with the ideal conditions to advocate for the needs of queer refugees in Brandenburg and provides many opportunities for individual refugees to make contact with the local LGBTIQ community.
